On 28 May, Diaverum successfully launched K-Camp, an initiative in collaboration with the University of Bari Aldo Moro, Italy. The programme offers two complementary training experiences: an e-learning course and an in-person residency at the University of Bari Aldo Moro, both focused on Point-of-Care Ultrasound (PoCUS) & Vascular access in Nephrology.
The K-camp courses are guided by a scientific committee comprised of Diaverum medical representatives and headed up by renowned nephrologist Dr. Loreto Gesualdo, Full Professor of Nephrology, University of Bari Aldo Moro.
The initiative was launched under the Diaverum Academy, an internal training and development programme designed to support the professional growth of Diaverum employees through a structured learning framework - empowering them to deliver the best possible care.
The e-learning course, held on 28 May and titled “Navigating the World of PoCUS and Vascular Access”, brought together approximately 600 nephrologists, shift doctors and nurses from 32 countries to explore key challenges and emerging solutions in PoCUS and vascular access care.
Chaired by Dr. Nicla Campobasso, Country Medical Director, Diaverum Italy and Dr. Marco Fiorentino, Assistant Professor at the University of Bari Aldo Moro, the course featured presentations by international nephrology experts, Dr. Carlo Lomonte, Nephologist at Ospedale Generale Regionale "F. Miulli", Acquaviva delle Fonti, Italy; Prof. José Ibeas, Director of Nephrology, Hospital Universitari Parc Taulí, Barcelona; and Dr. Carlos Lucas, Diaverum’s Corporate Medical Office Vice President.
Dr. Fernando Macário, Diaverum’s Chief Medical Officer, said: “At Diaverum, we believe that advanced and continuous training of our physicians and nurses is essential to delivering clinical excellence and truly patient-centred care. PoCUS is a transformative tool in this regard, enabling faster diagnostics, more informed clinical decisions, and safer practice. This initiative reinforces our commitment to an innovative model of care, driven by technology and by empowering our teams. Our collaboration with the University of Bari and Prof. Loreto Gesualdo aligns with this strategic vision, particularly in the critical area of vascular access – a cornerstone of nephrology practice and patient outcomes”.
Dr. Lucas, who delivered a presentation about emerging technologies and innovation in vascular access, added: “Vascular access management is central to our clinical strategy. We are committed to delivering world-class renal care - and that starts with high-quality, personalised vascular access care. I was delighted to dive into the latest innovations in vascular access care and engage in dynamic discussions with colleagues from around the world. The enthusiasm and thoughtful questions from the audience were truly inspiring”.
Maria Chiara Durio, Country Managing Director for Diaverum Italy, who led the initiative, concluded the remarks with: “I am deeply proud of our medical team, whose unwavering dedication and competence transformed this programme into a successful reality. Their commitment to delivering high-quality care made this initiative a true milestone for Diaverum Italy”.
K-Camp will conclude this month with a one-week, hands-on training programme for 12 selected nephrologists at the University of Bari Aldo Moro, covering point of care ultrasound techniques, vascular access procedures, and clinical decision-making.
