On 25 September, Diaverum Italy hosted its third Patient Education Day in Marsala – part of an ongoing initiative designed to empower kidney dialysis patients with the knowledge and confidence to approach their treatment proactively. The programme focuses on supporting participants to make informed lifestyle choices, such as maintaining a balanced diet and reducing salt and fluid intake, to help improve their overall health and treatment experience.
The day created a valuable space for dialogue and shared experiences, helping attendees understand how small, everyday choices can make a meaningful difference to their quality of life during dialysis.
Also in attendance was the Mayor of Marsala, Massimo Grillo, who shared his thoughts on the initiative, saying: "The municipal administration recognises that these events organised by Diaverum are opportunities to work as a team, to learn about and understand the difficulties faced in dialysis. The Municipality of Marsala is committed to providing support wherever possible, including home care services. We are here to look patients in the eye, to tell you that we are close to you and that we are trying to support you."
During the event, Maria Chiara Durio, Country Manager of Diaverum Italy, expressed her heartfelt thanks to Dr Daniela Rallo, Medical Director of the Marsala clinic, Anna Alivernini, Country Nursing Manager, and Mario Iannone, Area Manager for Sicily, for their dedication and ongoing support to patients. She also extended her gratitude to Antonio Maniscalco, Head of the Western Sicily Cluster Area, and Davide Lauducina, Head Nurse at the Marsala clinic, who work tirelessly behind the scenes every day alongside doctors and nurses.
Patient Education Day reflects Diaverum’s commitment to seeing dialysis not only as a treatment but as a way of life – one that deserves attentive listening, meaningful support, and comprehensive care.
The initiative is being rolled out across all Diaverum clinics in Italy. Building on the strong success of the first two events in Castelvetrano and Taranto, it continued in Marsala and will expand further with upcoming sessions in Fondi and Mesagne, scheduled for November. Each centre will take part in training sessions and awareness-raising activities designed to guide individuals towards a more engaged and better-prepared treatment journey.
